Asus A7V8X, AMD XP2000, 512mb Corsair PC2700, ATI 9700 Pro, SB Audigy,
Thermaltake sink/fan - $788

I figure I can cheapout a bit on the CPU because it gives me a less
expensive upgrade path to a faster CPU sometime next year (after NR2K3
comes out).

Should run NR2K2 (with Tom's scenery updates) and GPL just fine I
expect... :)

full draw distance (hate popup!), 42 cars ahead (hate popup!), Tom's
updates, no dropping below 30 fps.

No AA, No reflections (reflections on I hit high 20s at the start). no aniso
(well, duh!).

GPL is also pretty sweet - if only I could solve the SBLive issues I have.
Tried *everything* short of swapping out the card itself.  Let me know how
you get on with the Audigy.

Cheers,

Mark

Everyone says the difference between the Live! card and the Audigy is like
night and day. Too bad Xp is the culprit.

I would think so :-), I have the same MoBo John, with a 2200+ and a
8500LE, waiting for the price on the 9700 to drop a bit, been running
very stable so far

Beers and cheers

The only thing I would _personally_ do different is get a Turtle Beach Santa
Cruz sound card instead of the Audigy.

But that's just me :)

It's on order, and I should have it by Thursday.  Probably not in time
for the Phoenix RASCAR race, but oh well.  The only change I made was to
step down one notch on the CPU to a XP 1900.  It was almost $20 cheaper
than the 2000, and I figure $20 for 70Mhz is really not a) worth it, and
b) not gonna be noticeable as far as performance goes.

Total price (including shipping) was $800.

Eagerly awaiting your opinion of the 9700. I have the same system, except
for the mb. Debating whether or not I would see enough of an improvement
over my ti4200 to justify the cost.

Your choice of motherboard could make a huge difference. Besides that,
it's an AGP8X card, so again, your mileage will vary.  However, Tom's
Hardware did a review of this card on a KT333 motherboard, and it out-
performed the Ti4600 by leaps and bounds.

I was waiting for the AIW 9700 Pro, and finally it's here.  BUT (dammit, ATI
always leaves ONE thing out of their AIW's I need), it appears the AIW
version does not support dual-monitors like the standard 9700 Pro does.

Would you by any chance know if they ever worked out that business with the
AIW cards not capturing sound in sync with the video?
